The Director – Project Controls & Readiness is a senior leadership role accountable for establishing and overseeing client’s project life cycle governance, project controls and execution readiness frameworks. The role ensures the integrity of cost, schedule, risk, and performance baselines across client’s mining and processing project portfolio and supports disciplined execution through transparent reporting, governance, and risk mitigation.
Working alongside the Director – Studies & Delivery, this role ensures that projects are ready for successful execution and handover, supporting client’s commitment to capital efficiency, operational excellence, and value delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Project Controls Leadership
- Develop and institutionalize project management framework and project controls systems (cost, schedule, change, risk, progress, and performance tracking) across the client’s portfolio.
- Establish Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), cost codes, scheduling frameworks (Primavera/MS Project), and performance dashboards.
- Ensure consistency in cost estimation, scheduling methodology, and earned value reporting across all projects.
Execution Readiness
- Lead the readiness assessment process for projects transitioning from feasibility (Gate 3) to execution (Gate 4).
- Oversee the development of commissioning, handover, and operational integration plans.
- Coordinate with technical, commercial, and ESG functions to ensure cross-functional readiness alignment.
Governance & Risk Management
- Implement and monitor client’s stage-gate framework, ensuring compliance with documentation and approval protocols.
- Lead risk identification, contingency management, and change control processes in collaboration with other functions.
- Support value engineering reviews, claims assessments, and lessons learned integration.
Reporting & Assurance
- Provide transparent reporting to executive management, Board, and stakeholders on project performance, risks, and variances.
- Develop early warning systems and escalation protocols for project performance deviations.
- Collaborate with the Project Control Manager to validate forecasts, analyse trends, and recommend corrective actions.
- Oversee the project governance implementation and conduct assurance audits on the process and projects under development.
Stakeholder Interface
- Interface with Finance, Legal, Procurement, and Investments teams to validate project funding, contract compliance, and delivery metrics.
- Support the CPTO in technical and financial due diligence for Gate approvals and investment papers.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead a team of project controls professionals across planning, cost, scheduling, risk, and reporting.
- Provide guidance to Project Control Managers in client’s and subsidiaries to ensure standardization and quality.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.
- Mentor Omani talent and contribute to national capacity-building objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Controls; Master’s or MBA preferred.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification is mandatory.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in project controls and readiness management, with experience leading large capital projects in mining, industrial, or energy sectors and at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Deep expertise in scheduling (Primavera P6), risk and change management, and earned value systems.
- Proficient in project definition, cost estimation (AACEI classifications), and resource levelling.
- Proven ability in designing and implementing project control frameworks across a multi-project portfolio.
- Experience interfacing with ERP and reporting tools (SAP, Oracle, Power BI).
